Do you live with pain that lingers long after the original cause is gone? Pain that doesn’t show up clearly on scans, that conventional treatments only manage temporarily, or that leaves you feeling exhausted and misunderstood?
If this sounds familiar, you’re not alone. And more importantly, you’re not beyond help. There is a growing body of research showing that chronic pain can be changed. With the right support, your brain and body can learn something new. This is the foundation of the Moving Beyond Pain approach.
Chronic pain often presents in ways that differ from structural pain. Symptoms may shift from one location to another, vary in intensity depending on the time of day, or appear after physical activity but not during it. They may also be felt predominantly on one side of the body. In contrast, structural pain tends to remain consistent in location and pattern.
Chronic pain is not just a physical problem. It’s a complex interaction between body, brain, and nervous system, fueled by fear. Often, pain that starts from an injury, illness, or period of stress gets "stuck" in the system—even when the body has technically healed. Over time, the brain continues to send pain signals, believing it’s protecting you.
Conditions like IBS, fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue, migraines, back or neck pain, POTS, and other unexplained physical symptoms illustrate how the nervous system can remain in a protective state—what we refer to as Neural Circuit Pain. The pain is real. But so is the possibility of change.
The Moving Beyond Pain approach integrates modern neuroscience with compassionate, trauma-informed care. It’s not about blaming your mind for the pain—it’s about understanding how mind and body work together, and how we can use that connection to shift the pain response.
You can think of it as retraining your brain and nervous system. By helping the body feel safe again, and teaching the brain to interpret signals differently, we reduce pain and other symptoms naturally, from the inside out.
This is not a one-size-fits-all approach. Instead, it begins with a careful assessment to determine whether symptoms stem from Neural Circuit Pain or Structural Pain.
It then draws on:
Experimenting—insightful and gently—with your brain and its relationship to pain. This can help determine whether your symptoms may be neural circuit pain.
Pain science education to empower and make sense of your symptoms
Nervous system regulation tools to move from fight-or-flight into safety and calm
Emotional processing to explore any unresolved fear, stress, or trauma stored in the body
Integration of top-down (cognitive) and bottom-up (somatic) therapies, such as Internal Family Systems, Embodied Processing, Pain Reprocessing Therapy and Depth Enquiry
Healing is relational. That’s why creating a safe, non-judgemental space is central to this work. As your therapist, I’m here to support you in exploring your experience at your own pace—not to "fix" you, but to walk alongside you as you reconnect with your body, reclaim your power, and rediscover ease.
Even if you've had symptoms for years, the brain is changeable. Many people who have felt stuck, discouraged, or unheard finally begin to feel real relief with this approach.
Healing happens when the whole person is seen and supported—not just the pain.
