Depth Enquiry™ is a transformative therapeutic approach that helps integrate implicit memories, release stuck thought patterns, and resolve trauma, anxiety, phobias, and deep-seated shame.
Developed by Amanda Gruhn through her extensive work with clients experiencing PTSD and trauma-related symptoms, Depth Enquiry gently unblocks resistant traumas and negative beliefs, providing a supportive and fluid healing process.
Rooted in the principles of EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), Depth Enquiry is also influenced by the pioneering work of Bessel van der Kolk, Pat Ogden, and Peter Levine. However, unlike EMDR, it does not involve eye movements. Instead, it incorporates binaural sounds, allowing clients to engage with the process either with their eyes open or closed.
EMDR can be highly effective, but Depth Enquiry offers a more holistic, fluid, and embodied experience. It fosters a deeper sense of relaxation and continuity, creating a therapeutic process that feels less clinical and more aligned with humanistic therapy settings.
In many cases, Depth Enquiry produces results that are at least as effective as EMDR—often even better.
What sets Depth Enquiry apart is its emphasis on depth, fluidity, and the uninterrupted unfolding of experience. The therapist:
Guides the client to stay present in the developing process throughout the entire session.
Encourages deep exploration by directing attention to thoughts, feelings, memories, and physical sensations.
Supports a sense of movement and organic progression within the experience.
Uses reflective listening to deepen the client’s engagement with their inner process.
Helps clients put their experiences into words, fostering integration.
Refocuses attention on missed or overlooked experiences, inviting the client to explore them more fully.
