Welcome to my blog! I’m Marzena Diard, and I want to share my transformative journey in understanding endometriosis pain through the lens of neuroplasticity. My exploration began during my training with Freedom from Chronic Pain, where I initially viewed my pain as purely structural—linked to menstrual cycles, uterine fibroids, and the aftermath of a stage 4 endometriosis laparoscopy, which left me with scar tissue. However, my understanding evolved dramatically after learning about the FIT criteria from Howard Schubiner, which encourages us to look for symptoms that are Functional, Inconsistent, and Triggered.
Schubiner's teachings illuminated the link between Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) and neuroplastic symptoms. This idea resonated deeply with me as I reflected on my own life. Through my previous therapy journey addressing my traumas, I heightened my awareness of stress and triggers. I recognized that my symptoms were functional; while the scar tissue could heal, my pain often became inconsistent and triggered by stress.
Additionally, I delved into Alan Gordon’s teachings about the brain-pain connection and how pain serves as a danger signal. Understanding that my brain interprets sensations and can misfire in response to perceived threats helped me further demystify my pain. As I began experiencing endometriosis pain at unexpected times—outside my menstrual cycle and even during the night—I questioned whether this could be a result of neuroplasticity. By treating my pain as a client would, I connected the dots to neuroplasticity principles. Each time I felt pain, I reassured myself that it was a neuroplastic response and that I was safe. This shift in mindset remarkably eliminated my discomfort, both during my cycle and in between.
This journey has not only transformed my understanding of pain but also empowered me to reclaim my life from chronic suffering. By viewing pain through the lens of neuroplasticity, we can foster healing and find relief.
